A local dealer visits the store, inspects the mower, places a sticker on it so you know where the local dealer is located. I was able to purchase mower deck parts from my local JD dealer, once the deck serial number range was determined. Briggs and Kohler engine parts are readily available. Kawasaki uses a different horsepower rating system than the rest of the industry so that 18.5 is pretty equal to a 22 hp Briggs in the 100 series Deeres. The 18.5 on the 48 inch deck is fine for Midwest bluegrass/fescue lawns but may be a little under powered for the much thicker southern zoya/bent grass lawns. Larry, if you are mowing your Bermuda grass properly you will not be happy with the cut of a lawn tractor.

Yes, even the lawn tractors at The Home Depot are inspected. John Deere calls these quality checks the “10-Point Pre-Delivery Inspection ”. You’ll call it reassuring, intelligent, and common sense.
What is the best lawn tractor?
John Deere is the O.E.M. Just to be clear.Just like every other manufacturer today, the Greenville plant does not make every component that goes into the tractor. John Deere is a worldwide manufacturer so some of the parts may be made in other states or countries in another John Deere plant. In addition, some common parts like nuts, bolts, engines, transmissions, pulleys and electrical solenoids are made by other companies for John Deere.

They also said if I ordered online I’d get “white glove” delivery from the JD dealer, who would show me how to use it. They said I could order online in the store, so we sat there with a sales rep and did that. Folks, I have become friends with the owner of the local JD dealership.
Who makes the engine for John Deere e130?
Our lawn tractor Ratings represent 10 brands, including Deere. If it's been years since you last shopped for mowing gear, be sure to see our mower buying guide. John Deere has been an industry leader in tractor and lawn mower manufacturing for decades, and for a good reason.

John Deere prides itself on being a company that is American made and they stand by its name. The brand only outsources certain parts such as the engine to ensure the best possible quality product for their customers. Most of their parts are also American made; however, some engines are manufactured in Mexico, Argentina, France, and India. During the 90s and early 20th century, the Deere group was constantly upgrading their innovation and technology to bring the best products.
Who Makes John Deere Lawn Mowers? (Are They Good?)
The Ct John Deere dealer said the trany cost for the trany was $ 671.00, that does not include labor !!!! My Hope that there is a Class Action Law Suite And I and other John Deere owners are paid for the problems that they have made a poor products. Well the x-wife got the JD mower in the divorce.
The bottom line is this, if you see something that seems too good to be true, IT IS! Please understand how these franchises are operating in this country and do your research before you make a major purchase and find yourself unsatisfied later. Secondly, don’t blame the repair man for the expensive frequent repairs if you choose the cheaper model. I’d like to say that I believe the blame goes to John Deere and the big box stores for reducing their quality to make a sale.
At the dealer
“You get what you pay for” just does not tell me a thing. All I know I’d I bought a Scott’s made by JD at a box store 13 years ago. The problem is the deck is done and JD wants $550 for a replacement, ridiculous!
They are shipped straight to each retailer or showroom from the factory floor. So, you are not getting an inferior product for the same model. First of all, outsourcing is nothing new in the lawn mower industry. You would be surprised by how many well-known brands use the exact same model. The reason for doing this is not strictly profit-related. The engines John Deere makes for themselves are part of the John Deere brand.
Dealers, especially those that service machines sold at home centers, often stock D-class as well as Select-Series tractors. So you can drive tractors of both tiers to see which you prefer. But in addition to their sturdier parts and construction, dealer-sold machines have warranties that are twice as long. Deere & Company is a world-certified US-based company and manufactures all John Deere riding lawn mowers and tractors.
My local John Deere dealer said he has had more D series reliability issues that the X350 but at over $1000 more, I would hope so. Unfortunately, a few manufacturers have also used this transmission in lawn tractors that are a little too heavy, use too large of tires and/or too large of deck. When they do that, the transmission has to work too hard and fails much sooner than it was designed too.
